Hi-Ho Cherry-O

We have two cherry trees in our backyard. These trees are very tall and very... branchy. Needless to say we got an abundance of cherries off of them this year. The last couple of years have been wormy and sparse.

Tree number one is ready about a week before
tree number two.

You can see how tall and big they are. Compare them to the jungle gym. Yeah imagine all the cherries in those trees.

Patrick play the role of monkey and climbed into the tree. He picked until his grocery bag was full and then handed it down to me on the ground.

I did brave the fence. It had a nice ledge, and I managed to get all the cherries that were hanging over the fence.

Just to give you an idea how many there were in the tree take a peek at...

They were hanging by great bunches. There were branches just loaded with bunches of cherries. It was actually very fun picking them. Look at how many we got! We filled this bin about 3/4 of the way full twice.

What do you do with all these cherries?
Can them of course!

Cherries in light syrup for pie, ice cream or just to eat out of the jar.

Cherry jam. I have never made it before but according to my brother, Aaron, it is delicious!

So, we have had a bumper crop this year. I still have a bin full to wash, pit, can and chop for jam. Sean is going to climb the tree tomorrow and get the rest. I look forward the the jobs, and love to see the jars lined up on my shelves down in the basement.

Cherries, cherries everywhere!!!

You are too cool! Nice farming, I mean, harvesting! That is a LOT of cherries. And to think, my dad is going to go buy some tomorrow from some stranger on Highway 89.
